Sociological reflections based on the film “La haine” (Hate), directed by Mathieu Kassovitz and released in 1995, whose plot takes place over the next twenty-four hours of a night of riots and heavy clashes with police in a slum on the outskirts of Paris, in which the protagonists, three teenagers, walk the streets in an atmosphere of violence between gangs and constant conflicts with the police.

“The Angel’s Share”

In this paper I present my personal reflections and knowledge of social work based on the film “The Angels’ Share” directed by Ken Loach and released in 2012. The movie is about young who cannot escape their criminal past. To avoid prison, they are sentenced to community service with an assigned social educator, Harry. He soon becomes their mentor, reintegrating them into socjety in a most curious way, introducing them to art and the world of whiskey. The message of this film goes beyond being hopeful, as it shows us the variability of social work, and how it consists of helping individuals, groups or communities to improve social functioning and create conditions, adapting to each situation by using the optimal resources for the individuals being the environment.

Psychological reflections based on the film “The Wisdom of Trauma” directed by Maurizio Benazzo and Zaya Benazzo and released in 2021. The story presented in the documentary shows the fragility of a person’s life with the experience of trauma. Professionals working with addicts explain what the wisdom of trauma is, how people and their bodies cope with traumatic experiences, and what suffering brings to the lives of those in need of support.
