Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), including family dysfunction, abuse, neglect, and community- instigated stress (Urban ACEs), are linked to negative health outcomes. This study examined self-reported trauma and depressive symptoms among urban community college students in the USA, using a descriptive correlational design with a convenience sample. Trauma was assessed through both conventional ACEs and Urban ACEs, and depressive symptoms were measured using the PHQ-9. Results indicated significant trauma (ACE μ = 3.59, Urban ACE μ = 2.15) and depressive symptoms (PHQ-9 μ = 9.30). Demographic analysis showed that students identifying as gender “other” and those of Hispanic ethnicity exhibited heightened vulnerability to trauma. The addition of childhood trauma to the inherent challenges faced by urban community college students creates an excess burden. Therefore, assessment of childhood trauma and the provision of psychosocial resources are critical to promoting the success and well-being of these students.

The following article deals with the subject of awareness of and respect for the rights of women inmates who are incarcerated in prisons during the following periods: pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum. Motherhood is difficult on every level, which is why it is so important for women to be aware of their rights in this regard. Perinatal care is crucial, due to the safety of both mother and child. It seems inconceivable that everyone lacks access to specialized care. The results of the authors’ survey at the Prison No. 1 in Grudziądz and the Prison in Krzywaniec – the only places in our country intended for the incarceration of convicted women during such a special period as motherhood – showed that there are shortcomings in the maternity and children’s wards when it comes to basic respect for human rights (as in women’s rights during the following periods: pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum), such as dignity and intimacy or access to healthcare services.

The purpose of this article is to discuss the topic of reporting on the adverse drug reactions done by medical professionals in Poland. Thanks to the continuous monitoring of the safety of medicinal products, the knowledge of a given drug’s effectiveness and potential side effects is constantly increasing, which allows to identify groups of patients for whom a particular formulation is the best therapeutic option.
In Poland, the information on the obligatory reporting on the adverse drug reactions is contained in the Pharmaceutical Law and in the individual “Occupation Acts” of medical doctors and dentists or pharmacists, among others. Medical professionals are obliged to report adverse reactions, while patients as well as their legal representatives or guardians should also report them. Continuous pharmacovigilance is an essential element of all health care systems that positively affects its quality. By systematically updating knowledge in this area, it is possible to constantly update information regarding potential adverse reactions to medicinal products.

Death happens just once in a single human’s lifetime, irrevocably destroying their existence. It is universal, and yet it remains hard to define. Human mind is absolutely helpless when it comes to death and yet – despite its limitations – it keeps trying to decipher its mystery. This is why the philosophers have formulated various beliefs concerning death throughout history and have tried to prove that they are right in their own ways. They sometimes use a syllogism to justify their theses. However, they are more likely to frequently use rhetorical devices. The most popular include a unique language, persuasion, figures of speech, sophisms and flights of rhetorics. None of the death concepts quoted in this article was proven by their authors and is considered probable. All of them seem to be abstract constructs closer to rhetoric than philosophy. From the cognitive point of view, they do not offer any knowledge of death, but have a certain therapeutic value as they spark imagination, organize emotions and influence the mind. What is more, they provide theoretical reference systems for a human being. They structure their basic existential categories, help to make sense of eschatological problems and prove transience purposeful. Paradoxically, the models may become a safe shelter from the dread of death and provide mental support for people. Despite their unrealistic character, they get a quasi-ontological status within the mental dimension and are deemed a special form of existence, resulting in permanent effects in the area of consciousness and in the behavioral zone.

The profession of feldsher appears in Polish written sources as early as the 17th century, initially in a military context. As it developed, efforts were made to regulate its position within the health care system. In the post-war years, it began to be seen as a solution to the shortage of medical personnel. However, the limitations of the profession and the development of other medical career paths have reduced its role in Poland. Nonetheless, in some countries, it is still of great importance. The sources also describe similar professional roles whose responsibilities overlap with those of feldshers. This demonstrates the enduring and international nature of this profession, which is reflected in different cultural contexts and healthcare systems. The purpose of this study was to present the changes taking place in attitudes towards the profession of feldsher and their duties in Poland as well as around the world.
