Mission and objectives of the journal

Our mission

The Filologiskt smörgåsbord (Filologiczny szwedzki stół / The Smorgasbord of Scandinavian Philology) is an academic journal focused on philological research in Scandinavian culture, including languages, literatures and other texts hailing from Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, Icelandic and Faroese heritage.

The journal is a continuation of the publication series Filologiskt smörgåsbord, with four volumes of original research articles already published (2004, 2013, 2018, 2020) and a fifth in preparation, set to conclude the series.

Embedded in its title, the main idea of the journal is to celebrate a diverse range of subjects, research methodologies and theoretical viewpoints. With our emphasis on interdisciplinary and intercultural approaches, we pride ourselves on being at the forefront of contemporary humanities. However, we also welcome more traditional philological papers within Linguistics, Literary Studies and Translation Studies. We invite contributions from emerging researchers and reviews of Polish and international scholarly publications that align with the journal’s scope.

A collaboration with the Faculty of Philology of the Jagiellonian University in Kraków, the Filologiskt smörgåsbord is an annual series published by the Jagiellonian University Press (Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego) under an open-access framework. It presents original academic papers in Nordic languages (Swedish, Norwegian, Danish and Icelandic), as well as English, German and Polish. Our editorial process follows a double-blind peer-review system, engaging Polish and foreign scholars from relevant disciplines.

The journal is exclusively available in electronic format, and the submission and publication of articles are free of charge.
