Principles of using artificial intelligence generators

Principles regarding AI

While using text and graphic generators that use artificial intelligence models in texts submitted to the ‘Quarterly Journal of the History of Science and Technology’, the publishing ethics guidelines and the following principles should be applied.

 

  1. Principles concerning the authors:
    1. Text and graphic materials generated by artificial intelligence should be clearly labeled; their description must contain the name of the tool they were generated with and the date of generation; unlabeled materials generated by artificial intelligence are considered plagiarism.
    2. Materials generated by artificial intelligence can be used in a submitted text only when their presence is particularly justified.
    3. The authors are obliged to learn about the license and the copyrights that concern the materials generated by artificial intelligence; when necessary, the authors are obliged to obtain relevant consent from the copyright owners before submitting the text.

  2. Principles concerning the editors:
    1. The editors of the Journal will not, under any circumstances, use the submitted texts or their fragments in queries in artificial intelligence generators, except for the cases described in the following point.
    2. When unlabeled usage of artificial intelligence generators in the submitted text is suspected, the editors will take steps to verify and explain the case, including using proper tools that use artificial intelligence models.

  3. Principles concerning the reviewers:
    1. The reviewers will not use the tools that use artificial intelligence in reviewing process.
    2. The reviewers will not, under any circumstances, use the reviewed texts or their fragments in queries in artificial intelligence generators.
    3. When unlabeled usage of artificial intelligence generators in the reviewed text is suspected, the reviewers will notify the editors and will not verify the text with proper tools on their own.
