Mission and Objectives

„Wschodnioznawstwo” (‘Eastern Studies’)

The yearbook „Wschodnioznawstwo” (‘Eastern Studies’) has been published since 2007 by the Section of Eastern Studies at the Institute of International Studies at the University of Wrocław. The initiators of establishing the journal were prof. Zdzisław J. Winnicki, long-term Head of the Section and Director of the Institute, member of the national authorities of the Association "Polish Community", involved in supporting Poles in the East, and prof. Walenty Baluk, currently the Director of the Center for Eastern Europe at the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin. The mission of the journal is to function as a forum for debate of Polish and foreign scientists, whose research interests include the multidimensionality of changes in Central and Eastern Europe and Asia, with particular emphasis on the post-Soviet area. Over the course of several years of „Wschodnioznawstwo” activity, it has managed to gather a group of outstanding specialists in the field of Eastern research, representing leading research centers in Poland and abroad. In 2019, we published an article by His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Macedonia, prof. dr. Ǵorge Ivanov.

The journal’s objectives include the publication of original scientific works in Polish, English or Russian language. The journal prefers an interdisciplinary approach to the topic, focusing on the research approaches dedicated to the security sciences and political sciences. For the last few years, the subsequent editions of the journal have a leading topics of the special issues. In 2019, it was ‘North Macedonia - internal situation and international relations’ (eds.
