“The Polish Journal of Arts and Culture. New Series” was established in 2015 as a platform for exchanging ideas, aimed at anyone who wishes to engage in an in-depth reflection on culture in all its manifestations – both material and symbolic – throughout cultural circles of the world and civilisations over the centuries. We encourage the authors to ask questions about the meanings hidden behind cultural products, to interpret and understand them. We seek innovative approaches and analyses that open new perspectives and provoke discussions. Our journal opens its pages to interdisciplinary and comparative research, because they offer insight into the studied phenomena from various, sometimes obscure perspectives.
As interdisciplinary studies significantly enrich the contemporary humanistic discourse, we seek to cooperate with philologists, historians of religion, philosophers, cultural anthropologists and all who wish to share their reflections on cultural phenomena and civilisation through their own tools of interpretation. Our goal is also to create a network of contacts and integrate the milieu of those involved in extensive, interdisciplinary cross cultural studies. We are keen to disseminate the output of research of Polish scholars throughout the international community, and to give voice to those whose research does not find recipients in these circles perhaps because of its rather niche or narrow appeal.
At “The Polish Journal of the Arts and Culture. New Series”, we publish original research papers on open and thematic (special) issues. Our journal also contains an Interpretatio Mundi section, which contains as yet unpublished translations from works in their original language. We are interested in the translations of works (or parts thereof) representing the ancient and modern literature of individual cultures. So here we present religious, philosophical and ethical-moral considerations as well as myths, legends and fairy tales, as well as other genres and original literary forms such as songs, travel writings and aphorisms. We believe that the language spoken by a given culture holds the key to its understanding. In this way, we let culture speak speak for itself, without scientific interpretation. Our magazine also has room for reviews, reports and discussion of publications and events important to the wider discourse of cultural studies.
“The Polish Journal of Arts and Culture. New Series” is a biannual periodical published by the Centre for Comparative Studies of Civilisations at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków, Poland and the Jagiellonian University Press in electronic form.
