Developing communicative skills has always been one of my main teaching ob-jectives. And my main concern has always been the same – how to involve all the students in speaking and how not to let the taciturn ones answer ‘I don’t know’ for the umpteenth time. The solution I have come up with is role play and role as-signment.

I consider reading press articles an indispensable element of a foreign language teaching. Reading newspapers is beneficial in many ways and it makes learning both more attractive and effective. Press articles are an invaluable source of information and can be used to teach many aspects of language: grammar, vocabulary, idioms, collocations as well as styles and registers. They allow you and your students to keep in touch with technological advances, trends in art, music, fashion, literature as well as grasp cultural idiosyncrasies.

https://doi.org/10.4467/20833113PG.14.017.2699The purpose of this paper is to describe the variability of the physical and chemical characteristics of springwater in the Chochołowski Potok catchment. Eleven springs were selected for research purposes. The research was performed from November 2008 to October 2009. Ca 2+ was found as the most common cation, and HCO 3 – was the most common anion in the analysed springwater. The spatial variability of the physical and chemical parameters depends on the geology of an area. Most of the physical and chemical properties of springwater are characterized by seasonal variability. Only a few seasonal differences of the physical and chemical parameters of water are statistically significant (ANOVA). The seasonal changes in springwater chemistry are characterized by high ion concentrations during dry periods in the autumn and winter and low ion concentrations during snowmelt and rainfall-induced floods during the spring and summer. Four factors controlling the physical and chemical properties of springwater were identified.
