https://doi.org/10.4467/2353737XCT.18.077.8559In this paper, a new PID-regulator based solution to the scientific and practical problem of increasing the accuracy of regulating the position of a ball on a platform in real time is proposed. A transfer function for balancing a ball on a platform is developed. A PID-regulator for balancing a ball on a platform is synthesized. A PID-regulator implementation on FPGA with parallel calculations is designed. An increased accuracy of regulating the position of a ball on a platform is approved by natural simulation.

https://doi.org/10.4467/2353737XCT.16.171.5782The utility and appropriateness of PN-EN 1992-3 [8] codes of practice concerning the control of cracking occurring in RC tank walls with the use of a simplified method is verified. A special focus is given to the control of cracking induced by thermal effects. Moreover, the paper presents vital issues not mentioned in PN-EN 1992-3[8], i.e. the influence of concrete cover thickness, concreting conditions and non-uniform self-equilibrating stresses. It proposes relationships and corrective values, with the use of which values φs and sz, appropriate for cases other than those defined in PN-EN 1992-3[8], can be established. It is shown that code charts 7.103N and 7.104N concerning φs * and sz *, due to code assumptions, have a very limited range of practical use.

An approach for the allocation of computing resources for single-tenant SaaS was proposed. Different cases of this problem for excess and lack of computing resources were considered. Those problems belong to the classes of linear and nonlinear Boolean programming. In order to solve the mentioned problems, heuristic and genetic algorithms have been proposed. A comparison of their effectiveness was made.

https://doi.org/10.4467/2353737XCT.18.060.8372Modern data centres consume large amounts of power resulting in high levels of carbon dioxide emission. The data centre is a virtual environment in which the workload is performed by virtual machines. A widely used technique to decrease data centre power consumption is to consolidate the virtual machines using a minimal number of physical servers. The authors propose a two-stage method to solve the virtual machine consolidation problem in cloud data centres. The proposed method is programmed in C# to evaluate it and to perform modelling using Google cluster-usage traces. The proposed method enables powering off nearly fifty percent of the previously selected physical servers by using an acceptable number of migrations of virtual machines.

Different cases of this problem for both an excess and a lack of computing resources were considered. These problems belong to the classes of linear and nonlinear Boolean programming. To solve the mentioned problems, heuristic and guided genetic algorithms have been proposed. A comparison of their effectiveness was carried out.

https://doi.org/10.4467/2353737XCT.16.260.6059The Internet of Things (IoT) is an emergent technology that offers great opportunities to enhance economic indices and productivity of enterprises, to improve the quality of consumers’ lives, and to enable more efficient use of resources. In this paper, the authors propose an approach to Microcloud-based IoT infrastructure management to provide the desired quality of IT services with rational use of IT resources. Efficiency of IoT infrastructure management can be estimated by the quality of services and the management costs. The task of operational service quality management is to maintain a given level of service quality with the use of minimum IT resources in IoT environment. The proposed approach allows the efficient use of resources for IT services’ provision in IoT ecosystem through the implementation of service level coordination, resource planning and service level management processes in an integrated IT infrastructure management system.
