Under the foundation slab of the thickness of 500 mm of a five- storey reinforced concrete building there was applied a layer of XPS of the thickness of 150 mm. The authors monitored the deformation of insulation under the load of the building from the moment of concreting the foundation slab until the completion of its development. Additionally, there were conducted laboratory tests of the σ−ε dependence and of material creeping. On the basis of the results of material properties, for the purpose of conducting the analysis of XPS deformations and effort, there was constructed a numerical model in the FEM system. This work includes the results of the conducted measurements and analyses with proper comments. They became the basis for drawing the conclusions which will be of use for future work.

https://doi.org/10.4467/2353737XCT.15.161.4336In one of the oldest chemical plants in Poland are two reinforced concrete towers for fertilizer granulation which were built in the nineteen-thirties. These towers have operated continuously in a very hostile environment for about fifty years. The authors of this paper have used ad hoc methods of repair and protection with varying degrees of success for several years. In 2012, the renovation of one of the towers was designed and implemented with a view to its continuous use over a period of twelve years. A new comprehensive method of protecting the tower was applied due to its relatively long-term use. The resulting tower damage, the results of chemical and structural analysis of the concrete and coating stress are presented in this paper. Furthermore, security methods applied by them and their functionality after a few years of use as well as material and construction details relating to works performed to make the tower operational over the next twelve years are presented.

The measurements have been realized in the existing object, build in the sixties of the 20th century, by simulating the actual acoustic influence with use of loudspeaker system at various sound intensity levels and wave lengths.

https://doi.org/10.4467/2353737XCT.14.080.1857Very often is necessary to use large spaces without supports in low floors in designed building where the construction system of the higher levels is completely different. In realized design for hotel building the authors of this paper have proposed prestressed structure made up two slabs and concrete walls as a I-beam web. It was formed the structure similar to box-section bridge beam. In this paper are presented and discussed the designing assumptions, parameters, the static and strength analysis results and the structure detailing. Based on the obtained results and experience from design process the conclusions was drawn.
