The literature study was conducted and the analysis of the statistical data of OECD was performed. The calculations show that the share of the foreign value added in the European Union’s exports increased from 20% in 1995 to 27% in 2011. The highest level was recorded in manufactured products (36% in 2011). It was also established that the share was higher in the case of the new member states. The foreign value added in the exports of the EU-15 originated mainly from within this group (France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain), while in the case of the EU-13 its dominant sources were the other new member states (Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary). The analysis shows that the foreign value added in the EU’s exports originated principally from the neighbouring (European) countries, big developed countries (USA), or big, quickly developing countries (China). The most important results from the performed analysis have been compiled in the conclusions section.
