https://doi.org/10.4467/2353737XCT.17.168.7276The Pomeranian Dukes’ Castle in Szczecin forms one of the most characteristic elements of Szczecin’s cityscape. That is why it is extremely important to expose its values properly, to stress the solid of the castle in the city panorama, according to its historical condition. Modern concepts for development of the northern castle escarp do not always meet the above expectations, both when it comes to composition and the very geotechnical safety of the escarp. The contemporary concepts for the development of northern escarp of the Castle Hill in Szczecin were presented in the paper, on the background of the complex historic, compositional and also technical conditions.

https://doi.org/10.4467/2353737XCT.19.017.10153The objective of the article is to present the possibility of using landscape studies in the development of guidelines for the revitalization of rural areas. Performing detailed analyses of the cultural and aesthetic values of the landscape has become the basis for formulating the directions for the development of the rural areas located in the vicinity of the town of Drawsko Pomorskie, that previously were part of state collective farms. Landscape studies included the identification and characterization of natural elements and cultural and aesthetic values of the area, based on the landscape audit methodology and commonly applied principles of valorization of cultural landscape. The analyses allowed us to identify areas that, due to a significant decline in the value of the landscape, caused mainly by the location of objects related to the former state farms, require the analysis of the legitimacy of their further protection within the “Pojezierze Drawskie” [hereinafter “Drawsko Lakeland”] Protected Landscape Area. As a result, it was possible to formulate new guidelines for the revitalization of the studied area. Keywords: landscape research, post State Farm areas, village renewal, landscape audit

https://doi.org/10.4467/2353737XCT.18.054.8366The monuments of Christ erected from 1920s onwards in many places throughout the world are a specific group of dominants associated with sacrum. Their effect on the perception of the landscape is very strong because of the artistic form and, above all, the symbolic dimension they have. The aim of the work is to demonstrate that land development projects around sacred landscape dominants in the form of statues of Christ should be subject to careful consideration, both in terms of functionality and composition. The adjustment of the environment to the scale and rank of the object - so as to emphasise its special role in the landscape, but also the symbolism associated with the sphere of sacrum - plays a crucial role in this case. Comparative analyses were made for ten highest statues of Christ in the world. The research was also supplemented with a presentation of the concept of land development around the statue of Christ in Świebodzin.

Although the issues of social involvement in the landscaping design process are essential for creating a peoplefriendly environment, in Poland, it is still insufficiently identified. The purpose of the article is to present selected examples of various levels and methods of public involvement in the landscaping design process in comparison to the theoretical principles of public participation in the architectural design. The analysed examples were selected in terms of differences in public participation levels, social dialogue tools used and communication with the designer, as well as due to a different functional program. Social involvement should not end at the stage of pre-design consultations. It is necessary to aim at its maintenance and strengthening also at the design stage, and, above all, during implementation and further use of the space.

Many palace and manor – garden ensembles, which were taken over in 1949 by state farms on the area of West Pomerania were devastated and destroyed. Unfortunately, changes of the space management conditions, which occurred after 1989, created new chances of development as well as new threats for monuments. The most important threat was the loss of monumental objects, and protection, even that which was in contradiction to original destination.
