This article presents the significance and the renewal capability of urban parks. Both the existing and planned parks may be included in the renewal area although they do not meet the criteria of space deprivation. Nevertheless, they may, to a significant extent, increase the opportunities of endogenous development of the neighbouring crisis areas if they are combined with the parks functionally and spatially. A park investment may be one of the key elements of improving the quality of local inhabitants’ life, but it may also have a strong symbolic impact in fighting with deprivation, answering the social and visual needs of an area.
