H. Kaufmann was a Jew of Polish origin who tried to determine the boundaries of national and religious experience which shaped her early life in Poland and her identity as an adult living in Argentina and Israel. H. Kaufmann the importance of transgression as a tool for transcending one’s own limitations and understanding the external culture. She also pointed to the multi-threaded and complex nature of Polish-Jewish relations.
