The documents which attest to the foundation of the town and granting a foundation charter come from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. The then owner of the town, Józef Karol Lubomirski, confirmed the town rights of Firlej in 1688. The subsequent heir of the town, Paweł Karol Sanguszko, 13 H. Seroka, Firlejów, s. 18–19, 23–24.
