AB - The authors of this paper present the methodology used to retroconvert the State Archive in Zielona Góra. In the introduction, they present their previous experiences with registering finding aids, e.g. the implementation of new unit descriptions in the IZA database. However, it was not until the “Finding aids list” that the scale of the problem was revealed – including the number of units with no digital equivalents and the type and forms of registering finding aids. The authors put an emphasis on the role of IT in entering data into the system using scanners, OCR software and Excel spreadsheets. They also outline the division of labour, team and method selection criteria and the consequences of the changes for the entire archive. In addition, they present the means of processing example fonds, as well as methods used to overcome the challenges encountered during the retroconversion process. According to the article’s concluding statements, further teamwork is still necessary.
