A definition and historical outline of the crime of infanticide is presented. The history of the penitentiary house in Fordon was also described. The last part of the article analyzes the files of four female prisoners from Greater Poland who were convicted of infanticide. The research concerned the following areas: description of the prisoner, prosecution, circumstances of the crime, opinions on early release and early release.
