AB - In the article the author addresses possible methodological approaches to analysis of legal discourse, in particular courtroom communication, and contends that the theory of speech genres provides an efficient framework for institutional discourse analysis. A model of genre analysis that embraces social, pragmatic and cultural aspects of courtroom communication is offered in this study.
