abstract = {The present article is an attempt to analyze the speech act of consolation in the Russian and Polish languages. Material for analysis is represented by speech contexts of blogs and Internet forums, as well as spoken language of the Russians and Poles. Presentation of consolation as a speech act is based on speech acts distinction functioning in linguistics. Consequently consolation was classified as belonging to the group of non-binding directives with particular emphasis on the features of linguistic politeness. Besides we distinguished different contextual variants of consolation as a speech act using their implicit lexical exponents. The material revealed that consolation is a complex speech act with semantic component of such speech acts as promise, request, command, condolences.},
