TY - JOUR TI - Answering the Contemporary. Analytics of Biopolitics and Biopower AU - Szczęch, Jakub TI - Answering the Contemporary. Analytics of Biopolitics and Biopower AB - In this article I try to characterize biopower and biopolitics and show how these conceps can be useful in descripction and analyse of selected socio-cultural phenomena of the contemporary. I start from the terminological confusion that can arise here because of previous functioning of biopower and biopolitics in the scientific and the political discours. Then I move on to present the ideas of Michel Foucault, who created, somehow misty and sketchy, but still inspiring theoretical background based on these two concepts. Neo-Foucauldian researches (Paul Rabinow, Nikolas Rose, Thomas Lemke, Majia Holmer Nadesan, Mitchell Dean) took the work on developing this heritage.   VL - 2016 IS - Volume 44, Issue 2 PY - 2016 SN - 0083-4327 C1 - 2299-9558 SP - 93 EP - 106 DO - 10.4467/22999558.PE.16.001.6012 UR - https://ejournals.eu/en/journal/prace-etnograficzne/article/odpowiadajac-wspolczesnosci-analityka-biopolityki-i-biowladzy KW - biopolitics KW - biopower KW -  contemporary KW - “life itself” KW - biomedicine.
