TY - JOUR TI - Multimodal potential typology of the rail lines located in the suburbs of the biggest Polish agglomerations AU - Kowalczyk, Karol TI - Multimodal potential typology of the rail lines located in the suburbs of the biggest Polish agglomerations AB - The paper presents methodology and results of the rail lines typology describing a contemporary potential of rail transport usage within a daily multimodal passenger travelling from suburbs to core areas of the biggest Polish agglomerations. A choice of the topic was justified by spatial differentials of the suburbs, served by public transportation. And deficiency of up-to-date and comparative literature was the second reason. Rail transport characteristics, in a situation of suburbanization, are specially favourable for usage as a passenger agglomeration transit. In recent years an increasing role of rail has been observed in this field. A key topic discussed in the article is a multimodal pattern of daily commuting that means an answer to low efficiency of the urban transport systems. The research covered 71 rail lines located within the suburbs of 10 biggest agglomerations of voivodeship capitals: Warsaw, Katowice, Cracow, Gdańsk (Tricity), Łódź, Poznań, Wrocław, Bydgoszcz and Toruń (BiT-City), Szczecin, Lublin.
