The multitude of design-supporting applications offers enormous possibilities, but also generates risks. The implementation of new, often expensive, tools usually occurs as an experiment on another project. The future of building design is considered to be associated with the BIM environment – a comprehensive tool used during construction and at subsequent stages of the building’s life cycle. A BIM developed project can provide the opportunity to merge the object with the town model; it creates a chance for better integration of new buildings within cities which aspire to become so-called ‘smart cities’.
