Innovation is often a necessary condition so that the company could function at all on the market. The purpose of this study is to analyse the impact of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) on the development of the districts of Lithuania. The article discusses the research results that represent the situation of smes in the districts of Lithuania in the period 2002–2010, on the basis of the data of the Department of Statistics of Lithuania. The article includes with statistics and graphical interpretation of individual groups of data.
