The crisis of 2007–2009 has revealed the lack of relevant national and global banking regulations and the weakness of banking supervision. The purpose of the paper is to analyse changes in global banking regulations in the post-crisis era. Particular attention has been paid to the implementation of the Basel III agreement to domestic banking systems and to the regulations introduced in the euro area in connection with the banking union. This article is based on a study of literature and legislation related to banking regulations and supervision. The analysis makes it possible to conclude that with the changes already made, both the global and national banking systems have become safer.
