These laws concerned the legal situation of the townspeople, the range of the direct democracy (the law on sejmiki, or local parliaments), the functioning of the Sejm, the relation between the Crown of the Kingdom of Poland and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania (uniform state), the administration of justice, the army, the police, and the tax system. The outbreak of the Polish-Russian war caused the suspension of the Sejm proceedings, and the King’s joining the Targowica Confederation, as well as the subsequent defeat, squandered the legislative efforts of the Great Sejm and its attempt at a general reform of the political system and law of Poland VL - 2013 IS - Volume 6, Issue 3 PY - 2014 SN - 2084-4115 C1 - 2084-4131 SP - 247 EP - 258 DO - 10.4467/20844131KS.13.014.1608 UR - https://ejournals.eu/en/journal/kshpp/article/ustawy-okolokonstytucyjne-sejmu-wielkiego-z-1791-i-1792-roku KW - Great Sejm KW - Constitution of May 3 KW - state reform KW - organization of judicature KW - supreme court KW - burgher rights KW - government KW - sejm
