Two books are analysed: Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas by Hunter S. Thomson (1971) and Przyjdzie Mordor i nas zje, czyli tajna historia Słowian [Mordor Will Come and Eat Us: A Secret History of the Slavs] by Ziemowit Szczerek (2013). The article aims at showing that journalistic texts following the gonzo aesthetics mime the narrative strategies found in literature (with special emphasis on thriller and picaresque novel), but also often openly question their assumptions.
