Two years later Grodziński and his young friend, Antoni Dziedzic, spent two weeks in Podolia kayaking on the Strypa and Dniester Rivers. The “Diary” of this expedition, written by Zygmunt Grodziński, constitutes a day – by – day relation of that long and difficult voyage on the rivers of Podolia. It provides ecstatic descriptions of the abundant wildlife, picturesque landscapes, and wild rivers. The author draws our attention especially to the variety and habits of birds. Grodziński’s remarks on the everyday life of the inhabitants of Podolia, diverse ethnically and morally, and their mutual relations are also very interesting. There are also recollections from World War I when in the years 1915–1916 Grodziński, a soldier of the Austrian Army, fought in that very area and became a captive of the Russians.
