These changes take place in Poland most often on the initiative of local government units, which are the so-called “creating subjects” of SPZOZ, since the 1990s and it can be assumed that they will also take place in the future. It should be assumed that this type of function reform of healthcare providers should be aimed at improving the economic and financial situation and, consequently, the conditions for providing medical services to patients, also defined as health security. The aim of this article is to present selected legal provisions relating to the issue of transforming SPZOZ into a commercial company based on the example of such changes carried out by the Małopolska Voivodeship on the basis of the Act of 1991 on healthcare providers in the form of the liquidation of the Specialist Hospital Ludwik Rydygier in Kraków and the establishment of the Voivodeship Company on its basis, continuing medical care.
