%X The published memoirs of Józef Puchała (1902–1983), a committed social worker, as well as folk artist and painter, concern his service in the 22nd Carpathian Lancer Regiment in the years 1924–1925. In them, the author describes the life of a cavalryman, both in the barracks and during manoeuvres, thus providing an insight into a different perspective of military service than that previously known from officers’ accounts. The manuscript of memoirs was also adorned with drawings, with some reproduced as illustrative material for this text, presenting, among others, officers and non-commissioned officers of the 22nd Cavalry Regiment that Puchała met during his service. In addition to personal relationships, the author tried to explain the organization of a cavalry regiment from the 1920s, and also described his superiors.
