abstract = {In the post-war period, the aging process of society progressed. This process may have contributed to health, social and economic problems. An interdisciplinary approach to these problems was necessary. This was reflected in gerontology. The interdisciplinarity of gerontology required the integration of specialists and scientists from various fields within scientific societies and conducting scientific research. In 1973, the Polish Society of Gerontology was established. It brought together representatives of various fields: sociologists, demographers, psychologists and doctors. This created an opportunity to undertake systematic research in the field of geriatrics and gerontology. The results of research carried out in various centers in Poland and abroad were presented during scientific meetings. Discussions were held, experiences were exchanged and directions for further research were established. The aim of the work was to understand the dynamics of the development of scientific research in the field of gerontology, with particular emphasis on the Polish Society of Gerontology.},
