To this end, a content analysis of previous publications in this field was carried out. The article discusses the theoretical foundations regarding institutional economics, its assumptions and its evolution up to the emergence of the new institutional economics (NIE). The authors then present various aspects of institutional economics that can be applied to regional development theory. The paper shows what kind of research is useful when analysing the impact of institutional factors on the territorial development. The final part of the article provides general conclusions on the described issues and recommends possible further directions and ways to develop research in this field, while including considerations from the sphere of current economic trends and issues of territorial development.}, doi = {10.4467/20843968ZP.23.006.19076}, url = {https://ejournals.eu/en/journal/zarzadzanie-publiczne/article/rozwoj-terytorialny-a-ekonomia-instytucjonalna} }
