Każdy człowiek funkcjonuje w przestrzeni sfer sacrum i profanum – rzeczywistości materialnej i pozamaterialnej, posiadających wiele znaczeń i interpretacji oraz stanowiących nieodłączne pole ludzkiej aktywności. Analizując skomplikowaną sieć powiązań i zależności sacrum-profanum, zauważono celowość lokalizacji locus sacer i jego specjalnego zaznaczenia w przestrzeni architektoniczno-urbanistycznej środowiska mieszkaniowego XXI wieku. Dowiedziono, że projektowanie kościoła we współczesnym skomercjalizowanym świecie nie należy do zadań łatwych, gdyż jego nowoczesna funkcjonalność wymaga od projektanta, oprócz ujęcia ideologii, wizji kościoła, tradycji i motywów biblijnych, zwrócenia uwagi na nowe sposoby kultu i najnowsze osiągnięcia technologiczne. Z tego względu współczesne sacrum znacząco odbiega od tradycyjnego modelu świątyni, co przedstawiono w dokonanych w artykule analizach. Objęta badaniem koncepcja przestrzenno-funkcjonalna ukazuje tę różnorodność, a zabiegi projektowe uwydatniają walory architektury i wymiar locus sacer. Artykuł powstał jako dopełnienie badań skoncentrowanych w niniejszym opracowaniu na analizach sacrum powstałego w nowej dzielnicy mieszkaniowej we Freiburgu w Niemczech.
