Chiara Lubich, Meditazioni: letteratura come relazione

Chiara Lubich (1920–2008), although the author of 32 books published in 26 countries (178 editions, 3.2 million copies), is better known for her social engagement, as reflected in numerous awards. She began to be regarded as a literary author only in the early 2000s, and primarily from a linguistic rather than literary perspective. This article focuses on her book Meditazioni (Meditations), reconstructs its genesis by tracing the writing process from the late 1950s to her death and the 2021 critical edition, and offers a literary analysis. This reveals Lubich as a forerunner of a new conception of literature: literature as relationship – not only between author and reader, but also among subject, inspiration, and the editorial process.

This study begins with a definition of discourse from Foucault’s perspective, then proceeds to explore various meanings of the notion of ‘mysticism’ in works ranging from Eliade and canonical authors such as Otto and James to Protestant positions. In Rio de la Plata essay writing, the use of the term ‘mysticism’ is rather ambiguous, as each author – without reference to the official and readily accessible doctrine – uses the label to describe realities of a different kind. While the mystical path generally involves a leap into the unknown, the selected authors present multiple perspectives on the mystical. Their texts reveal certain intuitions concerning the ineffable nature of spiritual experience, which is later translated into personal experience and social practice (orthopraxy) at the national level.

Inventions à trois voix – l’oeuvre artistique et littéraire de Léon Kochnitzky

This article addresses the issue of the relationship between words, images, and music in Léon Kochnitzky’s work within the framework of interdisciplinary research. It attempts to provide an insight into the Belgian writer’s vision of three-voice poetry, in which the author, by attributing specific sensory impressions to the respective artistic fields, translates the analogies between images, words, and sounds into analogies between painting, poetry, and music. Particular attention is given to music, which here serves as a connecting element between different levels of narrative and as a means of expressing emotional nuances beyond the possibilities of language.

The work of Marguerite Duras is a unique example of the quest for identity expressed through the exploration of the relationship between identity and otherness. These questions are central to the concerns of a writer whose distinctive feature is the transgression of boundaries. The two Durassian novels, Un barrage contre le Pacifique and L’Amant, perfectly illustrate this ongoing process of self-construction, which reveals an openness to otherness. These novels convey the author’s Indochinese experience and reflect, par excellence, her fantasy of hybrid identity, expressed through a return to origins, to the sources of her vocation. Marked by contradictions and by her belonging to two identities/cultures, she manages to transcend the boundaries between self and other through writing.

La construction de la compétence à communiquer langagièrement en français langue étrangère à l’époque de la pandémie du Covid-19 : entre succès et échecs

This article discusses the development of communicative language competence among Polish-speaking students learning French remotely during the Covid-19 pandemic. The first part outlines the complexity of this competence and the need to foster all of its components. The second part presents a questionnaire- based study of students’ self-assessment of receptive, productive, interactional, and mediation skills, as well as emotional and metacognitive competencies. The results indicate increased competence in reading, listening, and mediation, but dissatisfaction with interactional skills, which require face-toface contact. Negative emotions (fatigue, irritation) prevailed, and most students expressed a preference for in-person or hybrid learning formats.

Asno y Burro – historia de una sinonimia

The objective of this article is to investigate the presence and status of two lexical items in the Spanish language: asno ‘donkey’ and burro ‘donkey’. If we accept, as some sources do, that they are synonyms, several questions arise: what kind of synonymy do they represent? And how does a linguistic system maintain two interchangeable terms? To answer these questions, we examine the etymology of both lexemes, trace their presence in Spanish over time, analyse their documentation and treatment in dictionaries, assess their frequency of use, and identify the types of texts in which they appear. The analysis is based on various Spanish corpora, and in discussing their synonymy, we draw on several lexicological studies, with particular attention to the perspective of M.L. Regueiro Rodríguez.

In Daniele Del Giudice’s short story Nel museo di Reims, memory takes centre stage in the narrative, acting as the driving force behind its development. This essay explores various approaches to mnemonic phenomena within the story, incorporating perspectives from the cognitive sciences alongside other interpretive frameworks.

The main objective of this review is to provide critical commentary on the book La negación en contraste by Raquel González Rodríguez and Cristina Sánchez López. The book presents and thoroughly describes the topic of negation, addressing the main aspects that characterize it. Starting from the perspective of Spanish, it adopts a contrastive approach to identify similarities and differences across languages. The authors analyse how negation is expressed, exploring both grammatical structures and the pragmatic contexts in which they occur, and highlighting the specific features of negation in various languages. This paper focuses in particular on the strengths of the book, while also pointing out passages that may be open to further discussion, especially concerning the final approach.

The aim of this article is to offer some critical remarks on the monograph devoted to Jewish languages and literatures, edited by Katja Šmid, Ora (Rodrigue) Schwarzwald, and Ofra Tirosh-Becker in honour of Professor David M. Bunis. In addition, the article highlights the significance of this type of interdisciplinary research, which bridges Romance and non-Romance linguistic and literary studies.
