The article presents an introduction to research on the modern reception of Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz’s biography and oeuvre. The author revisited discussion about the author, which had continued for the first few years after the writer’s death. In the later part of the article, the examples of literary works were recalled, in which the authors introduced Iwaszkiewicz as a literary character, such as Morfina (Morphine) by Szczepan Twardoch, Krew i honor (Blood and Honor) by Michał Zygmunt or Stulecie Winnych (Century of the Guilty) by Ałbena Grabowska. In the conclusion, the author highlights the importance of Anna Iwaszkiewicz in the reception of her husband’s oeuvre.

The article presents an analysis of Stefan Żeromski’s diary-writing practices by Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz, while showcasing it as a space of personal experience as well as literary reflection and myth-creating reconstruction. Iwaszkiewicz depicts Żeromski from diverse viewpoints – as a master; a moral authority; a simple human being present in conversation, gesture and anecdote; and a figure of “the last Romantic of the modern times”; as well as a creator, whose biography and oeuvre align into a narrative of the spiritual heritage of Polish culture. Żeromski’s journals are read as autonomous work of art as well as laboratory of his artistic consciousness. In such reading, the admiration and critical curiosity, need for understanding the artist and desire for de-mythologization come together. Iwaszkiewicz, simultaneously using tools of a critic, witness and myth-creator, shapes Żeromski into a historical person and an archetypical individual, making his dairy-writing practices into the fundament of the Polish modernity and the everlasting inspiration for the next generations of readers and writers.

The article concentrates on the newest edition of Chopin by Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz (2025), a widely-read and popular biography, which got its anniversary 10th edition. The editorial method chosen for this book can cause a change in its reception, putting a stronger accent on the scientific dimension of the text and placing it within the context of the contemporary research on Chopin’s life and oeuvre. In reality however, the strength of the biography written by Iwaszkiewicz are not only broad musicological and historiographical competences of the author, but also literary talent and numerous strategies, thanks to which the narrator interprets the composer’s psyche as well as places the given episodes from his life in the literary and musical contexts. Chopin described in such a way, becomes an element of a complex and multidimensional European culture not only of the 19th but also beginnings of the 20th centuries.

The article’s goal is to propose a new reading of the fragments of Weather Map by Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz. The author of the article concentrates mostly on the composition of the fifth sub-cycle and on the role of the notion of “weather” mentioned in the title. The Weather Map can be placed within a broader context of reflection on the relationship between what is human and what is divine through an extensive comparison with the Book of Genesis and the Book of Psalms as well as numerous allusions to the Judaeo-Christian imagery.

The article’s goal is a critical reading of Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz’s poem in the light of the so-called green philological studies. The research material of the article consists of the poems originating from different eras of the poet’s oeuvre – from the early erotic poems to the late works, especially highlighting the topic of civilisation critique, care for the environment and reflection on interspecies relationships. The theoretical inspirations for the article include the eco-critical ideas described in the works of Aleksandra Ubertowska, Joanna Bednarek and Przemysław Czapliński, as well as the concept of queer ecologies and vegetal turn in humanities. The article presents a thesis that Iwaszkiewicz’s poetry creates a vision of reality, in which humans and non-humans coexist, transcend and co-create. The interpretation – while using the previous findings of researchers exploring the poet’s oeuvre – proposes the focus on the post-anthropocentric, ecological and relational dimension of his poetry.

The article is dedicated to the analysis of Anna Iwaszkiewicz’s book titled Nasze zwierzęta (Our Animals) as a literary work that has been previously marginalised but has been proven to be important for the understanding of the writer’s literary activity. The key issue of the text is the depiction of its polemic dimension – both towards Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz’s oeuvre and the anthropocentric narrative about animals which was prevalent during the time of the book’s creation. The analysis highlights the importance of the book as a creative self-determination gesture of the author, whose short stories – that have been previously read as meant for children – hold a multilevel reflection on the topic of old age, transience and interspecies coexistence.

The author of the article discusses a document from Czesław Miłosz’s archive (the collection of Beinecke Library): the notebook from 1934 including poems and prose that were either published, unfinished or left as a manuscript. Four manuscripts of Miłosz were critically discussed, in a detailed fashion, on the basis of exemplification: a manuscript of the poem Bramy arsenału (Arsenal Gates); an unfinished and unpublished manuscript of a catastrophic poem; manuscript of unprinted and abandoned prose work of a narrative character; and a manuscript of a dialogue that was unpublished as well, which constitutes an environmental self portrait of the Żagary poet group. As a conclusion, the author of the article expresses the opinion that the discussed notebook deserves an editorial presentation as he sketches out the preliminary project.
