Governance through the Sacred: Racialising Islam in the Israeli Settler State

Abstrakt

This article examines how religion functions as a racialised mechanism of power in the Israeli settler-colonial state. It shows that Islam, identified with Palestinians, has been transformed from faith into a racialised sign of threat, a category in which religious identity is treated as an immutable biological-cultural trait that justifies suspicion, control, and violence. Drawing on a qualitative, interdisciplinary approach grounded in critical theory and settler-colonial studies, it employs discourse analysis of legal, media, and socio-political practices to reveal how religious identity becomes a tool of governance structured by race and religion.
