Poddani króla polskiego w służbie Holenderskiej Kompanii Wschodnioindyjskiej w XVII wieku
Holenderska Kompania Wschodnioindyjska (VOC) była pierwszą spółką akcyjną o charakterze międzynarodowym. Ze względu na rozległy obszar, rozciągający się od Przylądka Dobrej Nadziei po Wyspy Japońskie, jej przedsięwzięcia wymagały licznego personelu. W związku z tym mile widzianymi w punktach rekrutacyjnych byli obcokrajowcy, pochodzący zarówno z krajów ościennych, jak i dalszych regionów Europy. Wśród nich znaleźli się także poddani króla polskiego. W ciągu XVII wieku do służby w VOC zaciągnęło się około 1000 osób, które według informacji zamieszczonych w scheepssoldijboeken (okrętowych księgach żołdu) przybyły do Zjednoczonych Prowincji z terenów należących do Rzeczypospolitej Obojga Narodów. Określenie ich pochodzenia, pełnionych funkcji, długości służby oraz przyczyn skreślenia z listy płac stanowią główną oś stawianych w niniejszym artykule pytań.
