In recent years, numerous Polish cities and municipalities have become involved in the creation of bike-sharing systems. Although the contribution of bike-sharing to creating sustainable transport caused some controversy in the literature, the positive role of cycling in promoting low-emission mobility and a healthy lifestyle is widely acknowledged. As part of the European Union’s sustainable transport agenda, some Polish local governments have obtained funding from structural funds for the implementation of bicycle-sharing schemes. This article presents an overview of selected systems, as well as a preliminary analysis of their users’ activity based on data obtained through a Web API. Although the scope of the data was limited in time due to the shutdown of the systems caused by the COVID-19 pandemic shortly after their spring reactivation, some patterns could be observed. In particular, users activity was more evenly distributed over time in larger cities (over 300 thousand of residents), whereas in smaller cities alternating periods of high and low activity was observed.

The article is to show tourist assets of the cross-border railway line Brest–Chełm, which is disrupted by a state border and the lack of a bridge on the Bug River barring access to Brest–Włodawa line section on the Belarus side and to Włodawa–Chełm section on the Polish side. The locally operating sections, built in the eighties of the twentieth century, of the strategic railway linking the Warsaw–Terespol line with the Vistula River Railroad (Nadwiślańska) have a great potential for the development of railway tourism. The line runs along prized nature areas of the macro-regions West Polesie and Wołyńskie Polesie. Sundry landscapes of the border countryside and their biological diversity are decisive in enjoying the highly valued scenery along the line on the Polish side. The attractiveness of the Belarus side – in practice accessible to foreigners following the introduction of the tourist and recreation zone ‘Brest’ in 2018 – is usually associated with the uncommon rules of travelling by train in the Belarus cross-border region. Both fragments of the line Brest–Chełm lead to and run through interesting tourist localities and cross-border culture sites. The article also touches on the present restrictions for railway tourism along this route, and the chances of reviving regular traffic in the Polish section in view of the governmental programme Kolej+.

This study deals with the synthesis of selected attributes of public transport accessibility. The aim is to present a new method of multi-criteria analysis. As the research area, the city of Cracow has been chosen. The GTFS (General Transit Feed Specification) system has been used to obtain traffic data for buses and trams within the city‘s transport company (MPK Krakow). The analysis itself consists of 4 main accessibility indicators (walking time to each stop, number of lines, directions, and connections from each stop). The problem of exceeding the stops accessibility beyond the administrative border of Cracow has been solved by using a 500 m wide buffer zone around the city. To connect the individual layers of indicators into a multicriteria analysis, the Voronoi diagram function has been applied. The results of the method are presented in the form of synthetic maps of transport accessibility for each bus and tram stop in Cracow. Together with the synthetic accessibility maps, an index of a stop importance has been created as well, which consists of the sum of the mean percentages from 3 indicators (number of lines, directions, connections). The synthetic method used and acquired detailed values not only for the city of Cracow as a whole, but also its individual parts make it possible to provide a comprehensive picture of accessibility by public transport. This multicriteria analysis can also be extended for a comparative study of selected cities.

Sustainable growth is now the foundation of economic growth, especially if the 2020 pandemic prompts the conclusion that the over-exploitation of planet’s goods is ultimately turning against humanity. Despite the climate crisis, Poles are reluctant to give up cars, and city authorities in Poland do not increase the quality and efficiency of public transport. Young people around the world are seen as hope for changing trends. The aim of the article is to verify the hypothesis about greater awareness of young people in Poland about climate change, manifested by mobility habits, compared to the older generation. The hypothesis was verified by a study  onducted on a group of 67 students commuting to the university at the age of 21-23 and a group of 45 commuters aged 25-65. The Sustainable Mobility Indicator (SMI) was created for the purposes of the article. The SMI considers daily travels of residents of a large Polish city. With the use of the created indicator, the hypothesis was rejected.

The ageing society and the necessity to meet the needs (including transport ones) of elderly people are a challenge for an increasing number of countries, including the EU Member States and Poland. Different types of modern ICT solutions are being proposed as a way of improving the meeting of the needs of elderly people in order to prevent their social exclusion. The growing popularity of solutions and services that use information and communication technologies (mainly the Internet and mobile applications) can also be observed in transport services and is perceived as a means to better meet transport needs. The aim of the article is to examine the extent to which seniors use ICT solutions to meet their transport needs when, for example, obtaining access to a car or car ride. A literature review, statistical data analysis and results of primary survey studies carried out on a sample of U3A students were used. The results of the analysis do not allow generalization on the entire population of elderly people but point to some interesting conclusions. For instance, at least one of the considered solutions (e.g. sharing travel by car as a driver or passenger) was used by almost two-thirds of those that responded using the Internet. Also, the solutions given were rated rather positively by the respondents in terms of their usefulness and ease of use. Those findings, apart from indicating further directions of research, allow for a cautious statement that these types of solutions can actually serve to better meet the transport needs of seniors.
