	Catalonian Collective Memory: Between Moral Wrong and the “Concoction of History”

	The subject of the article is Catalan collective memory with respect to the times prior to the establishment of the Spanish state, specifically the epoch of the Crown of Aragon which provide vital points of reference for Catalan national idea and identity. There are contradictory versions of the history of this medieval political entity – conventionally referred to in the article as Spanish and Catalan. While the former serves to strengthen the idea of the Spanish nation, the latter provides secessionists with arguments in support of the vision of Spanish oppression of Catalonia and undermines social legitimacy of the Spanish jurisdiction over this territory. Within contemporary sociopolitical order in Spain, cultivation of cultural diversity and collective memories of historical minority groups is not only feasible but acknowledged in the Constitution. What is of great importance, there are co-official languages which are used in the public sphere at the regional level alongside Castilian. The author demonstrates that such conditions not only favor cultural differentiation, but also lead to a hiatus between historical interpretations.
