I analysed the factors that affirmed the domination of starostas and defined the formal extent of their powers, as well as those that helped to maintain a certain degree of autonomy between a starosta and city officials, and facilitated the emancipation of the latter. The officials’ oath, its perception in the gentry community and the judicial cases which concerned such issues were the focus of particular attention.   VL - 2016 IS - Numer 143 (2) PY - 2016 SN - 0083-4351 C1 - 2084-4069 SP - 253 EP - 259 DO - 10.4467/20844069PH.16.003.5052 UR - https://ejournals.eu/czasopismo/prace-historyczne/artykul/starostas-judiciary-authority-versus-officials-oath-volhynia-of-the-last-3rd-of-the-16th-century KW - starosta KW - city officials KW - power KW - oath KW - Volhynia KW - judicial system
