Yet, on the territory of this huge country, as well as the empire which was built by its sovereigns, other movements of Christianity were also evolving. Throughout history various groups were emerging, most often called “sects” by those who wrote about them, but they had little or nothing in common with the Orthodox Church or even Christianity. They may have resulted, as it is sometimes assumed, from bogoiskatelstvo, the term to describe the characteristic of the Russians searching for God everywhere and in different ways.
