It comprised 45 districts covering the provinces of Lviv, Stanislawow and Tarnopol. In the early thirties of the 20th c. the Lviv School District occupied 16% of the territory of the Second Republic of Poland, which was inhabited by as much as 19% of the entire Polish population. In this area there operated 22% of teacher training schools, 18% of elementary schools, 17% of secondary schools, 14% of vocational schools and 12% of kindergartens. Compared to the rest of the Polish territories, the Lviv school district was characterized by an increase in the number of secondary schools and a dynamic growth of private education. In the district, e.g. in the school year 1937/1938, there operated 23 out of the total of 57 schools with other than Polish language of instruction. Despite the changes taking place across the country, the division into chiefly male state schools and private female schools still remained intact there.
