Because of the extent of the material (47 novels, 40 diaries, the work of 23 women poets), this article takes the form of an initial survey of the field. The work was examined from the perspective of critical cultural theory and sociology of literature. The author modeled her work on the methodology developed and introduced by, among others, Inga Iwasiów, Przemysław Czapliński, Agnieszka Mrozik, Maria Janion, and Kinga Dunin. The article also uses the latest research on subjectivity in female autobiographical practices, presented by Sidonie Smith and Julię Watson. The literary work examined, which is predominantly autobiographical, presents Polish women’s migrations as an experience that is, on one hand, emancipatory (economic independence, renegotiation of gender roles), but, on the other hand, is a threat (trafficking in women, violence, discrimination, exploitation). This is why a characteristic feature of this work is its social engagement and critical perspective. The authors concerned seek answers to the question of the identity of the contemporary Polish emigrant woman.}, doi = {10.4467/23916001HG.17.007.9061}, url = {https://ejournals.eu/czasopismo/studia-historica-gedanensia/artykul/migracje-kobiet-miedzy-emancypacja-a-wyzyskiem} }
